About

Ok who is the packetjunkie?
Obviously it’s me. My name is Alexander, but most people call me Alex, that’s why all my posts will be written by Alex.

My day to day job is the administration of networks and infrastructure related to the network (firewalls, routers, etc).
I am also the so called “hostmaster” at the company I am working for. So I am (with a mate) responsible for all the route-, inetnum- asnum-objects – or in short I am a LIR contact.

I started this blog because I love my job and because it is not only my job, networking is more like a passion for me. I spend a lot more time on this then only the hours from nine to five. Sure you will discover this while reading this blog – if you not already did by the title.
In case you are asking for the intention of this blog I am not sure what I would answer. The idea for this blog is some days old already but I never found a good start. Most of the time I was not sure what I should write about. Neither I was sure what language to write in.
Today I need to get a USB to serial adaptor working on a Mac and decided to write a short article about how I solved this “thing”.
And that is exactly what this blog will be about. Things around networking. It’s not ment to be a professional blog but I will try not to write useless stuff.

In the paragraph before I mentioned the language to write in.
I am sure that you already figured out that I am not a native english speaker – nor a writer ;)
My mother-country is Germany and I live there all the time – for those nosy people out there I live in the beautiful city Hamburg.
This said: I decided to write my posts in english for two reasons.

  1. I think it is some kind of training writing stuff in english. You need to look up some words you are not using all the day. And you must make sure that you transport your “message” without being in a dialog – where your audience can ask questions if they don’t understand what you are saying.
  2. The language of networks was, is and will be english. I case you fell over this blog in this huge thing called “internet” I am sure you was searching for something network related. And if I am right you will be able to speak or at least read basic english – which the “version” I use definitely is.

Ok that’s it. Nothing more :)
