I got an older IBM ThinkPad T22 to run FreeBSD on and possibly take with me when I deploy.
Well, actually I got two ThinkPads:
I plan on swapping memory so that the T22 has 384MB memory and a 80GB drive with the new battery. Then, the T21 can be sold on eBay, which may actually yield a profit though the goal is to just break even. So, the T22 is the one I keep, use and take with me...
The main reason I got it was in case I deploy assuming I get a good deal -- e.g. staying on a base with electricity -- I could take this one with me instead of my more expensive notebook, which has been my primary system. I figure if I lose ~$200 due to damage/theft I won't be nearly as upset as losing mine which is still worth much more than that.
So far FreeBSD is working out fine but I'm starting to doubt I can get suspend-to-disk (hibernation) to work anytime soon.
