Remember, the US Courts believe you have no right to expect privacy in email.

GPG imageI've always been surprised by the lack of people using GPG, PGP or even S/MIME. Perhaps now that the Sixth Circuit US Court of Appeals has stated that e-mail is not protected under the Forth Amendment of the Constitution and that "users have no expectation of privacy," people may think again.

Even people who state "I have nothing to hide" should be disgusted by the fact the government doesn't believe they even deserve privacy. Maybe once they consider the fact that the government is composed of people -- unelected, normal people -- they'll realize some stranger is learning far too much about their personal life they'll start using encryption and expecting everything to be encrypted.

Honestly, there's never been more reason to use encryption and support the organizations like the EFF. Most Unix and Linux users should be able to figure out how to use GPG on their own and can try educating Windows users with my GnuPG for Windows How-to. And if you care about your privacy rights, be sure to EFF.
