I've always been surprised by the lack of people using GPG, PGP or even S/MIME. Perhaps now that the Sixth Circuit US Court of Appeals has stated that e-mail is not protected under the Forth Amendment of the Constitution and that "users have no expectation of privacy," people may think again.
Yesterday, I got my OpenSolaris Starter Kit. The artwork is great and the discs themselves are pretty cool. I probably won't be switching to OpenSolaris any time soon, but I'll probably continue to play with it.
It really annoys me when people talk about money without taking into account things like inflation and socio-political circumstances.
I don't consider myself to be überl33t or anything. However, it somewhat saddens me to see that phrases like RTFM slowly being phased out of Linux culture. I guess it's the strongest indication that it really is going mainstream.
The Copyright Alliance seems to believe piracy is worse than burglary, fraud and armed robbery. Ars Technica has an awesome article on it. In other news, Microsoft believes using Linux is worse than not tipping a good waitress, beating your wife or supporting terrorism.
Slashdot recently featured a CNN Money article about using the brain to control computers, beaming data directly into the mind and instant thought transfer. All of which raises major security and privacy concerns.
The Gaim project has been Pidgin for a month now. I still dislike the name. I really wish they'd have named it something cooler like PIMP (you know, Portable Instant Messaging Package); after all, they used to refer to it as "The Penguin Pimpin' IM Clone That's Good For the Soul."
Very few things (with respect to computers, technology and the Internet) make me as angry as the idea of Internet taxes.
I'm amazed about the fact that the new Street View feature of Google Maps is causing people to suddenly worry about their privacy.
If the Intellectual Property Protection Act passes into law and simply "attempting" to infringe copyrights is cause for wiretaps, imprisonment and asset forfeiture, you can be damned sure I'll protest by leaving the US as quickly as I possibly can.
